EMC is to acquire network virtualisation company
Rainfinity to support businesses deploying network attached storage
(NAS).
The acquisition is valued at under $100m (£59m), said EMC. The
company said the addition will help it provide the same type of
data connectivity between NAS systems as it does for more expensive
storage area network (SAN) systems.
Howard Elias, EMC executive vice-president for corporate
marketing, said, “With the addition of Rainfinity, EMC is extending
the benefits of virtualisation to EMC and non-EMC NAS environments,
to enable more comprehensive information lifecycle management
solutions, better resource management and overall operational
improvement.”
Rainfinity's Network File Virtualisation technology delivers
full read/write access to Windows, Linux and Unix-based files
during system migrations, and delivers non-disruptive upgrades and
faster networked storage consolidation.
