University College London is to offer an MSc course aimed at
people starting technology ventures.
The MSc in technical ventures and foundations of
entrepreneurship (TVFE) will be comparable with an MBA but with a
distinct technical focus and a concentration on start-ups rather
than organisational business models.
The course is targeted at working professionals who want to gain
skills and improve their employability with a higher degree, as
well as graduates looking to start businesses.
Michael Smith, academic director of TVFE at University College,
said, "Highly skilled individuals often have a workable concept or
idea for a new venture but they do not know how to turn it into
reality. The end result is that the company either fails at an
early stage or never gets off the ground."
TVFE students will be expected to develop a new venture business
plan for their dissertation. They will be able to use University
College's engineering, scientific and computing facilities to
demonstrate the technical and commercial viability of their
ideas.
The course also offers opportunities to make contacts with
potential investors, business partners and clients.
