The Enterprise Grid Alliance has issued a checklist of
security requirements for grid computing.
The alliance, which includes Hewlett-Packard, Oracle and EMC,
was set up last year top promote the use of grid computing by
larger businesses.
Its Enterprise Grid Security Requirements paper aims to help
users make informed risk management decisions when they use
enterprise grids.
The document is intended as a guide for end-users, standards
organisations and vendors. It outlines the risks and threats
inherent in enterprise grid computing and sets out a set of
security measures to tackle them.
The security requirements are vendor neutral, technology and
implementation agnostic, and would be updated as the enterprise
grid market evolved, the alliance said.
Lee Cooper, chairman of the Enterprise Grid Alliance grid
security working group and director for security program management
at Oracle, said: “As a result of our analysis, we've concluded that
enterprise grid environments are better positioned to satisfy a
company's security and compliance objectives when compared to
traditional models of computing. This appears true during initial
deployment, as well as throughout the lifetime of the grid.”
