The British Computer Society has introduced IT practitioner
certificates in application management essentials and IT
infrastructure management.
The qualifications are based on the best practice guidelines
recommended by the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), to which the
BCS adheres.
They are aimed at IT professionals responsible for ensuring their
organisations' IT services support the requirements of the
business, said the BCS.
There are no formal entry requirements for the application
management essentials certificate, which consists of a three-day
course, followed by a one-hour exam.
However, candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding
of the application management lifecycle and how IT projects and
strategies need to be aligned with those of the business.
Those taking the IT infrastructure management certificate need to
demonstrate knowledge and practical application of the processes
required to manage IT infrastructure.
However, there are no formal entry requirements for the five-day
course, which has a three-hour written exam. It is suitable for
people with one or two years' experience.
Colin Rudd, chairman of the BCS Information Systems Examinations
Board, said, "Successful management of IT infrastructure and
applications is fundamental to the delivery of secure, reliable IT
services, and to the successful implementation of IT projects."
