IBM is starting a beta user programme for its new data
integration products which it says will let users consolidate their
enterprise applications.
The software aims to simplify the complex task of integrating
various types of information in the enterprise, enhance the quality
and accuracy of that information, and improve the productivity of
staff managing it.
IBM said the new products would allow users to create and manage
master repositories of critical business information, and search
and access information on demand, wherever it was stored within the
enterprise.
IBM is combining the technology from recently acquired Ascential
Software with its existing information integration portfolio. This
consists of technology from an Ascential project codenamed Hawk and
IBM’s Serrano project.
According to the company, Hawk delivers a simplified and
powerful user interface, while Serrano streamlines the design and
development of information infrastructures, allowing users to
acquire information across the enterprise through enterprise search
capabilities, information integration and text analytics.
Key to Serrano is a new product called IBM Rational Data
Architect, built on the open source Eclipse platform, which helps
data architects model, discover, map and analyse data across
multiple information sources.
Another new product is IBM WebSphere Information Analyser, which
is part of the Hawk project. This provides end-to-end data
profiling, auditing and business-oriented analysis in a single
product.
