EDS to shut datacentres as operations go to
India
Outsourcer EDS is to close 21 of its datacentres in the US and
Europe by the end of next year and move some of the work to India
and other cheaper locations. EDS chief financial officer Bob Swan
said the company would close 17 of its 42 US datacentres and four
out of 12 centres in Europe that manage software for
customers.
Tesco adds Sonetto to improve supply chain
Tesco.com is running Sonetto 2.0, the new product information
management suite from Ivis Group, to improve the flexibility of its
supply-chain. The software will be used to increase the accuracy
and relevance of product information as it flows between suppliers
and customers.
Real-time service order management
initiative
SAP, Capgemini and Vidus, a company specialising in building
software for utilities, are working together to make it possible
for utility organisations to automatically generate, update and
manage service orders in real time. The integration of Vidus'
taskforce into SAP for Utilities and SAP Mobile Asset for Utilities
will allow users to manage the workforce on the fly and advise
service technicians of their orders via mobile devices.
Firefox browser update fixes domain weakness
The Mozilla Foundation has updated its Firefox browser to block
several reported vulnerabilities, including one that allows
non-Microsoft browsers to fall victim to phishing attacks. The flaw
is in Firefox's support for the Internationalised Domain Names
standard which handles special character sets in domain
names.
M&S to move RFID trial out to 53
stores
Marks & Spencer is extending its radio frequency identification
trial within its supply chain to support items of clothing. From
spring 2006, the number of stores participating in the trial will
increase from nine to 53.
BEASystems joins open standards group
BEA Systems has joined open standards group the Eclipse Foundation
as a board member, in a bid to help drive the convergence of Java
in web services. BEA will lead the foundation's Web Tools Platform
project.
