Veritas has announced a new version of its OpForce
provisioning software that can help administrators install and
manage applications as well as operating systems on
servers.
The new version of OpForce is integrated with the Volume Manager
and File System software that make up Veritas Storage Foundation.
Integration with Veritas Cluster Server, which had been expected
with this release, has been pushed back until 2005.
As part of an agreement between Veritas and BEA, OpForce now
integrates better with BEA's WebLogic application server. WebLogic
users can use features such as preconfigured templates to make it
easier to manage their software for use with OpForce. In turn, BEA
has integrated support for OpForce into WebLogic 8.1 service pack
3.
Veritas spokeswoman Jill Stevenson said OpForce could be used to
provision any application and a variety of operating systems
including Windows, Linux, Solaris and Aix.
OpForce is based on software Veritas acquired with the purchase
of Jareva Technologies.
