Salesforce.com has released an upgrade to its CRM as a
service solution, Summer 04, which moves the supplier well beyond
its target market of small- to mid-size companies.
The Summer 04
release, which includes Enterprise Edition 2.0, will feature a set
of technologies that increases support from hundreds of users to
thousands of users under a new multi-tenant Very Large Organisation
(VLO) architecture that is highly customisable and targeted at
global companies.
"We are now
focusing on the back end, refining our database VLO architecture,
which gives us the ability to do multi-tenant for enormous data
sets across very large organisations," said Adam Gross, director of
product marketing at Salesforce.com.
Enterprise Edition
2.0 includes a cache server that stores all of an organisation's
user-level preferences and customisations. These customisations
exist as metadata in the cache server and are rendered on demand
for high performance.
For developers,
Enterprise Edition 2.0, which is available now, supports
development environments from BEA Systems, Borland Software,
Microsoft and the open source community.
