The £27,000 raised from last summer's Intellect ICT
Industry Charity Ball is now helping disabled children improve
their verbal communication skills at Barnado's new Spark Centre in
Bethnal Green, London, which opened in
January.
The industry ball, supported by Computer Weekly and organised by
suppliers' organisation Intellect and the Worshipful Company of
Information Technologists, was attended by IT users and suppliers
from across the industry.
Spark Centre staff and members of Barnado's IT department
researched and followed best practice and selected the specialist
IT, comms and multimedia equipment following visits to other
disabled IT suites, including the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
children's ward school and the recently opened Richards House
Hospice in Docklands.
The Spark Centre's internet cafe aims to create a welcoming,
informal environment. Activities in the suite include verbal
communication, short film making, music making, game playing,
newsletter and flyer creation, skills work, sensory development and
internet access.
