Sybase has released the latest version of Replication
Server, 12.6, which aims to reduce the risk of database downtime by
setting up redundant standby sites and synchronising data across
heterogeneous database platforms.
The enhanced symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support in Replication
Server 12.6 is designed to maximise the use of hardware resources
and give applications with a real-time data requirement the
capability to handle high transaction volumes with low latency.
Sybase claimed Regulation Server allows organisations to achieve
business continuity for "always available" systems, data migration,
data and transaction synchronisation between the organisations and
mobile users, and data mart and data warehouse population.
"In the wake of the power outage that affected the East Coast in
the US and recent reports of natural disasters such as fires and
hurricanes, companies are searching for technology solutions that
promise to minimise downtime in the event of a disaster," says IDC
analyst program director Carl Olofson.
"With replication technology such as Sybase Replication Server 12.6
the risks associated with the loss and downtime of critical
business data should be minimised, in addition to allowing
companies to leverage the disaster recovery site databases they
create to generate reports, enhancing the return on their
investment."
Replication Server's embedded database aims to make it much easier
to manage and administer, reducing operational management costs and
the expertise required to manage replication environments.
Replication Server 12.6 is designed to support high availability by
propagating data to multiple locations for disaster recovery and a
faster return to full deployment. It also supports very high
uptimes without using a clustered database solution to reduce
maintenance overhead.
It also offers customers the flexibility to move and synchronise
data bi-directionally across heterogeneous database platforms
including, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, Oracle, IBM DB2 and
Microsoft SQL Server.
"Sybase Replication Server gives companies the ability to maintain
constant uptime and manage high-volume database loads more
efficiently," says Tahzier Isaacs, marketing manager at
Sybase.
"Companies have the ability to move and synchronise data from other
applications when and where it is needed. Replication Server is an
important component of our Unwired Enterprise solutions, which help
organisations to manage data for maximum value, and mobilise for
access any time, anywhere."
