Maxtec Peripherals, a SMC Networks distributor, has
announced two additions to the SMC Networks Gigabit switch product
line, the 16-port SMC8516T and the 24-port SMC8524T.
Perry Hutton, product manager at Maxtec, said the switches
enhance a desktop range, including five and eight-port 10/100/1000
switches (SMC8505T and SMC8508T) and a 32-bit Gigabit Ethernet PCI
network card, the EZ Card 1000 (SMC9452TX), which brings affordable
gigabit connections to the desktop in any business environment.
Adding higher density switch options to the Desktop family of
products, the EZ Switch 10/100/1000 16- and 24-port switches aim to
bring the speed of gigabit copper to the desktop with 16- or 24
auto-MDIX ports.
The products incorporate an 8Kbyte MAC address table to ensure
support for even the largest of networks.
"The only switches of their kind with jumbo frame support [to
9Kbyte] and a configuration that allows for desktop or
rack-mounting, the switches are as well-suited to enterprise as to
SoHo environments where power applications demand increased speed
and bandwidth," said Hutton.
Used in combination with SMC's EZ Card 1000 copper Gigabit
Ethernet adapter (SMC9452TX), the SMC8516T and SMC8524T aim to
provide a high-performance gigabit Ethernet solution.
"The SMC product helps to break down the barriers to make
Gigabit to the desktop a viable alternative in more and more
environments," said Hutton.
