The European Commission has given the go-ahead to mobile
phone operators to share their networks in Germany.
T-Mobile International and mmO2 agreed to offer their networks
to each others' subscribers in the UK and Germany to speed up the
roll-out of third-generation mobile phone services.
The commission approved the network-sharing plan for the UK at
the end of April. Approval for network sharing in Germany "confirms
that site sharing in itself does not raise competition concerns",
it said in a statement.
The two mobile phone operators have been granted clearance to
pool resources in rural areas for a longer period than in built-up
areas.
