Hewlett-Packard yesterday introduced an OpenView tool
for developers using the Eclipse open-source framework which,
it claimed, simplifies the creation, development and deployment of
Internet Usage Manager (IUM) components.
The HP OpenView IUM Component Development Environment, unveiled
at the JavaOne show in San Francisco, is aimed at reducing the
complexity Eclipse developers face when working in multiple
environments.
Eclipse is an open-source community which seeks to establish a
platform for software development tools integration.
The tool works with the HP OpenView IUM, which collects systems,
network and usage data and automates analysis for functions such as
planning, billing and cost allocation.
While HP OpenView IUM automates these functions, different
customer needs and policies can require the development of system
components.
The software tool simplifies the development and deployment of
these components by allowing developers to build more easily
standards-based applications that scale.
The development environment has also been integrated with the
IUM Plug-In Development Kit which, HP said, will allow developers
to speed the creation of custom extensions.
The tool will be available for download later this month by
licensed IUM users.
