While grid computing provides organisations with the opportunity to maximise the use that they are able to make of their existing IT resources, from a technology perspective it should be seen as just the start point

Grid computing has the ability to extend the use of computing resources beyond the boundaries of the modern enterprise by gathering together and utilising disparate clusters of computing power. One company making in-roads with grid computing in the enterprise is Platform Computing, a supplier of distributed computing software.
