What have you got in your pockets?
A Nokia 6310 and lint - to be honest, the phone spends more time
clamped to my ear than in my pocket.
Who would you most like to have a date with?
Jessica Rabbit - if you have to ask why, I suggest you rent the
DVD.
What's your favourite chat-up line?
I don't think anyone really likes chat-up lines, they are passé. If
you've got something to say, just say it.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I'm still deciding.
How did you get into the IT industry?
I figured that technology was the way forward, plus it's always
fascinated me - I never could walk past the door of The Gadget
Shop.
What's your favourite song and why?
My way by Frank Sinatra appeals - for obvious reasons.
What do you do to relax?
Golf, skiing, mountain biking - anything active that lets me
totally unwind.
What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to
you?
Locking myself out of my hotel room in Las Vegas - wearing only my
shorts. It was a long walk to the reception desk and you would not
believe just how many people are about at 4am in a Vegas
hotel.
What's your favourite place and why?
The tee box on any par five - I'm a long hitter.
If you had a dinner party and could invite anyone, dead or
alive, who would you invite and why?
Right now, it would have to be Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis - the
dinner conversation would be brief, but the entertainment would be
absolutely priceless.
If you won the lottery, what would you do with the
money?
I don't play the lottery - the odds are ridiculous. The calculated
risks taken on day-to-day trades suffice.
If you could make a voodoo doll of someone, who would it
be?
Can I make it Richard and Judy - or anyone else on daytime TV? It's
a pet hate.
This year is MicroScope's 20th anniversary, what were you doing
20 years ago?
Plotting my escape from boarding school.
What's the most daring thing you've ever done?
Jump from an aircraft 15,000ft above the Mojave Desert. No matter
how many times they tell you it's safe, you still have to wonder
what you're doing the first time you step out of a perfectly good
plane.
What's your best quality?
I would like to think leadership. Setting up a successful trading
floor in the independent distribution business means having a lot
of strong characters all pulling in the same direction. To get that
working without friction is hard work and requires strong
leadership.
What's your most annoying habit?
Watching news channels 24/7 -CNN, SKY, CNBC, Bloomberg; any of them
will do. I'm an information junkie, never can get enough.
Favourite joke?
Current favourites are any joke relating to Enron or Allied Irish
Bank's $691m oversight. You have to laugh when something that huge
gets missed.
What most annoys you?
People who don't listen. I work in a very fast-paced business with
trades and deals happening all the time. We only have a limited
time to get everything done - if people aren't listening, they are
wasting my time.
Who is your biggest hero/heroine?
Captain Kirk - while plotting that escape from boarding school,
Star Trek reruns were about the only shows they'd let us watch.
Kirk was always a strong leader and you have to admire those
infamous shoulder rolls.
How would you like to die and what would you choose as your
epitaph?
I'll leave the cause of death to your imagination, but if they
found me smiling in Hugh Heffner's swimming pool, I think I would
have died happy! As for my chosen epitaph, I'd have to leave that
to my PR consultant.
