IT managers keen to prove their leadership skills need look no
further than this year's Computer Weekly Computastars competition,
writes Martin Couzins.
A cross between TV's It's a Knock Out and Superstars, the
competition offers IT workers an opportunity to get fit, meet other
ITers and have some fun.
Put aside that change management project for a day and enter the
eight-legged race; take time out from e-business and become a human
wheelbarrow; swap the helpdesk for the steeplechase.
What's more, Computastars is celebrating its jubilee year and more
teams than ever are expected to enter.
So, if you are up for it, get some colleagues together and fill out
the entry form in Computer Weekly Xtra! on page 66. Teams of no
fewer than three and no more than five competitors can enter, and
there is a category for both men's and women's veterans to enter a
team.
The deadline for entries is 4 April. Heats will take place on
Saturday 8 June in Crawley; Sunday 16 June in York; Sunday 23 June
in Birmingham; and the UK Final is on Saturday 27 July in Cardiff.
All the teams taking part will be listed in Computer Weekly and all
the heats will be featured in Xtra!. A full page will be dedicated
to the finals along with a list of all the participating
teams.
The only criteria for entrants is that they must work in IT, either
in an IT department or for an IT company. Some people take part
every year and do a lot of training to prepare themselves, others,
like the team of Computer Weekly journalists that will be taking
part this year, just hope they will be able to survive the day.
More than 40,000 competitors have participated at 50 venues in the
UK and Europe in the past 24 years.
