Giga Information Group analyst Lou Agosta discusses how poor data
quality can become a major flaw in many businesses' customer
relationship management strategies.
There are a number of common problems with keeping data on
customers accurate and timely.
The first is consistency in the form of data representation. Common
problems include reversals of letters or errors in transcribing.
The second issue is where information residing in the database does
not correlate to the real world such as a wrong postal address or
where information is ambiguous. A third problem area for data
managers is keeping the data secure and available at all
times.
