Individuals looking for an online identity can now opt for a .me.uk
domain name.
An overwhelming majority of the members of Nominet, the UK's
national domain name registry, voted for the creation of the new
domain names. This is the first second-level domain to be added to
the UK domain name space since Nominet was founded in 1996.
Me.uk domains will be registered on a first come, first served
basis. The registration fee starts at £50 plus VAT, but will
gradually be lowered over the coming six months to £5. The initial
high price is intended to discourage cybersquatters from
registering domain names in bulk, Nominet said.
