Alan Wheeler has quit his post as UK managing director at Adobe
after 18 months in the job.
Wheeler joined Adobe in 1994 when the software vendor acquired
Aldus, where he was business development manager. He had been at
Aldus for eight years before the merger.
Since joining Adobe, Wheeler had worked his way up from Acrobat
product manager to sales and marketing director for central eastern
Europe and South Africa, before becoming regional sales director
and finally UK managing director.
An Adobe spokeswoman said Wheeler had decided to move on to
pastures new, but could not reveal what he was doing.
“After 14 years with Aldus and Adobe, we are obviously sorry to
see him go, but he wanted a new challenge,” she said.
The vacancy will be filled by Adobe’s head of US sales, Sue
Scheen, who has come to the UK for a year while a permanent
replacement is found.
“It’s a competitive market at the moment and we do not want to
leave the position open while we look for a replacement. It’s
better to have somebody on a temporary basis to keep the business
focused,” the spokeswoman said.
Wheeler’s time as managing director had seen some major changes
in the way Adobe positioned itself as it stopped trying to sell all
its products to everybody and adopted a specialist sales and
marketing approach.
Wheeler and Scheen were not available for comment.
