Web server software used by major UK Web sites runs 85% faster on
Linux 2.4 than on previous Linux releases.
Will GarsideIBM has tested the latest Linux kernel on a four-way Netfinity
7000 server, running Zeus Web server software.
The speed increase has been attributed to release 2.4's capacity
for symmetric multi-processing.
Neil Macehiter, technology evangelist for Zeus commented "We are
very pleased with the performance gains in standard version of the
software with just a kernel change."
Zeus plans to release a version of its Web server software,
optimised for the latest version of Linux, which will run even
faster.
Zeus runs on more than 700,000 servers world-wide and is used by
UK Websites such as those run by Ebay.co.uk, Interflora and Cable
& Wireless.
