Eric DoyleFormer president the Duke of Kent presented the British Computer
Society's annual IT Awards last week.
The awards, which began in 1973, are presented for IT projects,
primarily based in the UK, that show a high degree of originality,
innovation and excellence.
"Of the 64 nominations received, there were none from Northern
Ireland or Scotland and only one from Wales. I hope this is not the
effect of devolution," quipped the Duke.
The winners were RadioScape for its Digital Audio Broadcasting
System; the Distributed Systems Research Group from the University
of Newcastle and its spin-off company Bluestone Arjuna Labs for
Arjuna Software, a suite of Internet-based transaction products;
and the Post Office, TeleVirtual and the School of Information
Systems from the University of East Anglia for its Text and Sign
Support Assistant.
