BP report-generation software saves hours

Thursday 22 June 2000 12:00

BP Amoco is to roll out an advance in report-generation software that will save hours in desktop support time.

The company is planning to roll out version 5.1 of the Business Objects software to 3,000 users at 75 sites worldwide in the fourth quarter of this year.

Version 5.1 offers a zero-administration client with all middleware transferred to the server. Support staff no longer have to download software to users and configure their computers to access databases.

"The user installs the application like a Web plug-in, assuming they have been authorised, and they can use it against all the databases they need," explains Kevin Larkin, business intelligence team leader in group digital business at BP Amoco.

BP Amoco has been beta-testing the release and will retest the production version before roll-out. Business Objects 5.1 is launched this week.
