Many of our readers will have heard of the death of Alan Benjamin OBE. Alan's contribution to our industry would be difficult to over-estimate.
Benjamin was the first director general of the Computing Services Association in 1975 and led it through the early turbulent years with a flair and energy that characterised his career, which culminated in the award of an OBE in 1983 in recognition of his services to IT.
Subsequently with ICL and then as director of communications for SEMA Group, his natural diplomacy and warm human nature won him many friends.
His tenacity and drive was most clearly seen through his role as a founder of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, of which he was Master from 1991 to 1992.
The WCIT will remain as a testament to his vision for the generations who benefit from the charitable work he did so much to create.
Charitable contributions in Benjamin's memory to Macmillan Nurses can be made through contacting the WCIT on 020 7600 1992.
