United gets comms on tap with £13.6m deal

United Utilities Water has awarded Thus a £13.6m contract to help improve its comms system

United Utilities Water has awarded Thus a £13.6m contract to help improve its comms system.

The contract is an extension to a five-year relationship United has had with Thus.

As part of the latest contract, Thus will provide voice, telemetry, outsourced managed systems and mobile voice and data services, with more than 6,000 voice extensions across 50 sites.

Provision of mobile connectivity through the use of mobile data and Blackberry devices means that United will be able to achieve office-level productivity while staff are travelling or at a customer’s site.

Mike Naden, BIS services director at United Utilities Water, said, “As our business grows and develops it is essential that our network has the capacity to deliver more advanced services in the future.

"The next generation network (NGN) system from Thus ensures that we have the capability to do this.”
