Power and automation firm ABB has signed a £1.9m worldwide deal with SSA Global that will see its enterprise resource planning software rolled out to more than 5,500 users.
The deal extends ABB's relationship with SSA Global - the power company already uses SSA software at sites in 16 countries, particularly in its high voltage and transformers business units. The deal will increase the number of ABB employees using the software by 25%.
ABB will roll out SSA Global's ERP LN platform in a move aimed at supporting the transformers business unit's after-sales service initiative by reducing the spare parts inventory, tracking and managing products, scheduling field management and improving project management.
Tarek El Hadidi, group vice-president for IT at the transformers business unit, said, "The programme to implement SSA ERP LN is just the latest example of how SSA Global is working with us to improve our global competitiveness."
ABB's transformers business unit will host SSA ERP LN on an IBM eServer pSeries server. The company's IT infrastructure was largely outsourced to IBM in a 10-year £600m deal in 2003, when 1,200 staff were transferred.
