Computer Associates has created a new senior role to drive its strategy and business development, which will include future mergers and acquisitions.
CA has appointed Michael Christenson as executive vice-president for strategy and business development a week after new chief executive officer John Swainson formally started work.
Christenson, who has joined CA after a 23-year career in investment banking at Citigroup Global Markets and Chase Manhattan Bank, will report to Jeff Clarke, CA's chief operating officer.
CA said Christenson would lead corporate planning and strategy, business development activities, and direct strategic alliances and merger and acquisition activities.
"I am very pleased to have Michael at the helm of CA's strategy and business development initiatives," said Clarke.
"He is a world-class executive with the proven experience to further strengthen our leadership position in the management software industry and take CA to the next level."
CA has now completely rebuilt its senior management team after the financial scandal a year ago when it was forced to restate its accounts.
