The analytical capabilities of Vignette V6 go beyond the normal analysis of clickstreams by providing additional information to help users understand how their Web sites are used and how content can be better organised. It also gives an insight into content affinities and allows marketing campaign comparisons to gauge the effectiveness of the layout and organisation of Web sites and portals.
By including the analysis and reporting tools within a content management suite, Vignette said it has enabled enterprises to react immediately to imbalances in the structure of their Web sites and make changes and adjustments to content and presentation more quickly.
The enhancements to V6 use standards such as Java, XML and Soap (Simple Object Access Protocol), which simplifies configuration and customisation of reports. It also allows the information collected from Web server logs and Vignette's own delivery logs to be shared with third-party analysis and ad hoc reporting tools.
The V6 adaptors for Microsoft Office XP make it possible for users to publish pages that have been designed in familiar applications, such as Word or Excel. Similarly, the adaptors can work in reverse to import Web content to Office XP. The adaptors are available free to V6 licence-holders.
What is a clickstream?
A clickstream is the virtual trail created by a user when navigating a Web site. It includes every page visited, the time spent on each page and the order in which pages were visited. Analytics can also show a visitor's IP addresses and what browser was used.
