Mobile phone company Nokia has launched a range of software products enabling the corporate use of Wireless Application Protocol (Wap) services, writes Daniel Thomas.

The Nokia Activ Software Suite features public key infrastructure (PKI) encryption, server authentication and push technology, which will allow companies to personalise services for their employees.

The suite comes in two editions: the Nokia Activ Server 2.0 Professional Edition, which runs on a single server and is intended for standard business use and development environments. The Enterprise Edition, available in early 2001, is intended for larger scale business use, operating on multiple servers with load balancing and fail-over support.

"Our software products will enable companies to operate more efficiently and to enter the mobile arena with secure, scalable services that ensure rapid payback," said Pertti Lounamaa, vice-president at Nokia Internet Communication.
