Wireless networking poses many security problems for users. First, there is the risk an intruder could eavesdrop on confidential messages. A hacker could try impersonating a legitimate user to introduce spurious messages. There is also the risk someone could misuse corporate IT applications

Numerous proprietary products are already on the market to implement IPSEC (Internet) security mechanisms on top of the wireless infrastructure, but they incur substantial performance and throughput penalties that are not acceptable to many users.
