An updated syllabus and website have been launched for the European computer driving licence.

The syllabus was developed to maintain the ECDL's relevance. It includes latest technology developments and more emphasis on the internet and security.

The website overhaul, which follows 12 months of researching users' needs, is designed to deliver the qualification more effectively and give visitors a better interactive experience.

About 700,000 people have achieved or are working towards the ECDL in the UK. They study seven modules, including managing files, spreadsheets and database presentation.
