Case study: Visibility enables Walsall to be better eQIPPed

In 2008, the Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust began working with McKesson to develop and implement HEV with the objective of improving resource efficiency and bed utilisation, to reduce costs and improve the quality of patient care – outcomes that support QIPP; an NHS initiative for the promotion of Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention.

Brigid Stacey, Deputy Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer and Nurse Director at Walsall, comments, “We have a lot of people working hard to keep patients flowing through the hospital, and a lot of good divisional bed management systems but these were operating in silos. We wanted to help staff to visualise what was happening in real-time across the organisation, and to synchronise the various teams – from scheduling and bed managers to the nurses who were trying to discharge patients.”
