On the matter of security, Microsoft comes in for more flak than most, but the imminent roll-out of Windows XP Service Pack 2 is seen as the first major plank of the software giant's Trustworthy Computing strategy.

Analysts warn that this upgrade should be regarded as a major undertaking but we believe that the security enhancements offered by SP2 will outweigh the potential disruption. We welcome this move by Microsoft to strengthen security and steal a march on its critics.
