Intelligent plug knows when to save energy

The Energy Saving Trust, a UK climate change campaigner, has lent its support to OneClick Technologies' Intelliplug, an "intelligent plug" that can power down peripheral devices automatically when the desktop PC is switched off.

Windows buyers to be offered free upgrade

Microsoft is offering free or low-cost upgrades to Windows Vista and Office 2007 users who buy a PC loaded with Windows XP before the launch of Vista on 15 March 2007. Large companies are set to be offered Vista next month, and users will not be able to get the operating system until next January.

Dell AMD server range lowers power usage

Dell has released a range of four- and two-socket AMD-based servers in a bid to offer users a way to lower power consumption and reduce operational complexity.

Server load balancing for smaller businesses

Kemp Technologies has produced a server load balancing product for small business users. Loadmaster 1500 offers a cheaper alternative to the larger switches available from the likes of F5, Foundry, Cisco and Nortel, said Kemp. It offers features such as Layer 7 persistence.
