NEC and EMC have agreed to jointly develop new storage and enterprise content management systems.
The pair will jointly develop storage hardware based on the recently introduced Storage Bridge Bay standard, which has cross-company support and which EMC already supports.
Storage Bridge Bay, which also has the support of Dell, Intel and LSI Logic, aims to standardise the workings of external disk subsystems.
One of the aims of the project is to make it easier for smaller firms to adopt higher-end storage technology.
The first products resulting from the NEC and EMC alliance are expected to appear next year. They will be manufactured by NEC and sold by both companies.
EMC said that the future low-end of its product offering will be based on the alliance’s development work.
NEC will also help develop EMC’s enterprise content management software. In addition, NEC has been invited to join the Storage Bridge Bay project.
