Microsoft has issued a further “final” update to its ageing Windows 2000 operating system after admitting its previous final update was flawed.
Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 version 2 was released yesterday and is designed to fix problems reported by users of the previous Rollup download.
Some customers had reported problems with using software from third party software suppliers after installing it. Software programs from the likes of Citrix, Sophos and Internet Security Systems were adversely affected by the Rollup, which mainly consolidates old fixes previously released by Microsoft.
Embarrassingly, even some Microsoft applications were also affected by the original version.
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 2000 this June, but a large chunk of enterprise customers still use it.
