Research from managed hosting supplier Globix suggests application development will top the 2006 IT budget at 20.7% of spend, even outstripping investment in network security.
But at the same time, spend on technical support will plunge by three quarters next year, from 10.9% of IT budget in 2005 to 2.7% in 2006, leaving few internal resources to cope with any software glitches.
The 196 senior IT decision makers surveyed said they would cope with this support deficit by siphoning 19.1% of budgets to outsourcing their infrastructure management and hosting.
