Users explain Zenworks 7 uptake

Novell used its Brainshare conference in Barcelona last week to showcase users of its Zenworks resource management suite.

Nick Leake, director of operations and infrastructure at television network ITV, told delegates, "We had already made a significant investment in Linux and other Novell products across our enterprise and needed to take the next step in resource management. With Zenworks, we can deploy applications enterprise-wide in a matter of hours."

Leake needs to manage, deploy and maintain 600 applications across 90 locations.

Zenworks allows Leeds City council to support 10,000 desktops and almost 400 different applications, according to Phil Bevan, business impact manager at the local authority. "We are always looking for ways to reduce the administrative burden on IT and divert resources to more important projects," he said.

The Zenworks 7 Suite, which was launched last month, automates the complete lifecycle of Linux systems and allows users to manage Windows workstations from a Linux platform.
