RFID supplier Impinj is about to start shipping radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags based on the more powerful Gen 2 specification.
Gen 2 can boost read rates to up to 1,500 tags a second, which is about five times faster than established specifications.
Gen 2 tags are also designed to reduce interference in working environments deploying multiple readers.
Impinj is also shipping a new range of multi-protocol readers that can scan RFID tags based on the Gen 2 spec, as well as those using the Class 0 and Class 1 protocols.
