Xandros 2.5 builds Linux desktop

Version 2.5 of Xandros's Desktop operating system has retained compatibility with key Windows software while smoothing the Linux migration path.

Maintaining its strong user focus and compatibility with legacy systems, Xandros Desktop 2.5 also offers an upgraded CrossOver Office 3.0.1, with support for Notes 6.5.1, Project 2000/2002 and Outlook XP.

Current Xandros Desktop OS users just need a single click to upgrade CrossOver Office with Xandros Networks.

The Deluxe and Business versions of Xandros Desktop 2.5 include a special edition of CrossOver Office to run Microsoft Office and other key Windows software. All versions include Linux kernel 2.4.24 and version 1.6 of the Mozilla communications suite.

"It excels in seamless network integration and cross-platform compatibility," said Frederick Berenstein, Xandros chairman and chief technology officer.

"The enhanced CrossOver Office capabilities make it easier than ever for desktop-driven businesses such as financial or insurance firms to migrate to Linux. Xandros has transformed the Linux desktop from a visionary future to a prudent reality for corporate IT planners."
