Check Point to bring software to 64-bit HP-UX

Check Point Software Technologies has announced a deal with Hewlett-Packard that will see the two companies work together to port a number of Check Point security products to HP operating systems. HP will also resell Check Point products to its customers.

The companies will work together to bring Check Point's Firewall-1, VPN-1 and Firewall-1 Secure Server products to HP's HP-UX 64-bit operating system for the Intel Itanium 2 processor, said Manuel González, senior manager for business development at Check Point

The software is slated to be ported to the platform and to be able to run on HP Itanium 2-based servers by the first quarter of 2003, he said.

Check Point is the leading vendor of firewall and virtual private network (VPN) software. Check Point's software runs on a number of operating systems, such as Linux and Windows, as well as a range of hardware platforms and appliances.

The companies will also discuss further ports, including to HP's line of blade servers, depending on customer demand, he said.

Check Point software had previously been ported to the 32-bit version of HP-UX and also runs on a number of hardware platforms from Compaq Computer which has since been bought by HP.

Under the terms of the deal, HP will also act as a Check Point reseller, offering Check Point's security products to its customers, González said. The companies will engage in joint sales and marketing efforts and HP's professional services division will also recommend Check Point products to its customers, he said.
