StorageNetworks yesterday announced the latest version of its STORos storage software platform, in response to industry demand for better storage resource optimisation and ease of use.

The STORos 5.0 software platform with StorageNetwork's STORos Storage Manager 5.0 technology delivers a range of storage management functions, along with integrated backup and recovery tools.

The arrival of StorageNetworks' latest technology follows the trend towards bundling comprehensive storage management tools, such capacity planning and performance monitoring, into a single, easily managed GUI, and then adding automation. EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, Fujitsu, and TrueSAN Networks have each taken their storage software products in this direction.

StorageNetworks claimed that users of STORos technology have experienced nearly a threefold increase in storage capacity utilisation, adding that annual storage network downtime has been reduced to an average of just 40 minutes using STORos, and backup completion percentages within the allotted window of time have been driven as high as 99.4%.
