The centre, due to open in the third quarter of 2002, will focus on developing security products in the areas of Internet gateway protection, content management and the delivery of Web-based application services. The centre will initially employ more than 50 engineers and will help to reduce the time to market for the company's products.
US-based Network Associates consists of three product groups: antivirus and security group McAfee.com, Sniffer Technologies - which focuses on network availability and system security - and Magic Solutions, which offers service management products.
Network Associates already has development centres in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
Bangalore, India's technology hub, has an estimated 80,000 software engineers out of a population of 5.2 million.
