Agito offers Wi-Fi call routing for Blackberry users

Agito Networks has launched a product it claims does voice call routing on the Blackberry better than Research in Motion's recently introduced MVS software.

Agito's RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is designed to help businesses provide enterprise voice and unified communications applications.

While Rim's MVS provides call routing via mobile phone networks, Agito is able to use Wi-Fi for VoIP calls, which the company says makes its product considerably cheaper to run than Rim's.

Agito said the RoamAnywhere Mobility Router supports mid-call features for Blackberry smartphones - such as hold, conferencing, transfer; a single enterprise number and voicemail; directory query; and call retrieve - with automatic sub-100 millisecond handover over between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. It also supports international direct dialing and roaming, least-cost routing, reverse dialing, automatic SIM swap, and dynamic calling rules, the company said.

Agito uses client software that runs on a Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry smart phone together with an appliance. Agito licenses the product at $100 to $200 per user.
