Microsoft revamps its search engine

Microsoft has revamped its five-year-old internet search engine to anticipate more of a searcher's interests. The move is seen as an attempt to rival Google.

A re-launch of the five-year-old service, leaked on Twitter in March, is expected within the next two weeks and will include a new name to replace the present Live.com, according to the Financial Times.

One potential rebrand name for Live Search is Kumo.com, the Twitter posting said. "Kumo" is the Japanese word for "cloud" or "spider".

The re-launch comes as Microsoft's search service fell to a new low of around 8% share of the US searches in April, compared with Google's 64%, according to research market research firm comScore.

Some analysts say even if Microsoft is able to put its search service on a par with Google's, it will struggle to win back the market share lost in recent years.
