The government and local authorities will be advertising their IT jobs on the Web from the summer.
The site, jobs4publicsector.com, aims to offer 1,000 public sector vacancies from central and local government, schools and the NHS.
The service, a joint venture between the Public Sector Information Group and City jobs.com, claims it will cut public sector recruitment costs by up to 50%.
Paul Condon, marketing director of European Careers System, which will run the site, said it will cut recruitment time for the public sector from four to six weeks down to two or three weeks.
All public sector workers will be able to access jobs advertised on the site through their organisations' intranet.
Public sector managers could place recruitment advertisements directly on the site from their desktop PCs.
