Microsoft has launched the
UK version of its Bing
search engine six months after making the service available in the
US.
Officially out of beta, the UK is the third country after the US
and Canada to receive its own version of the search engine.
Bing will now provide UK users with localised results for the
first time, as Microsoft continues to ramp up its challenger to
search market leader Google.
The service aims to win support by providing an easier and
simpler way to search the web, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft describes UK Bing as a serious, long-term commitment
to put a differentiated search product in to the market place,
according to the
Telegraph.
Bing UK includes all of the features of the US version,
including real-time updates from Twitter and
Wolfram Alpha functionality for handling numerical data.
Microsoft's share of the global search market has increased 1.5%
since Bing's launch in May. Bing has a 3% share of the UK search
market, compared with Google's 80%.
