Despite an increasing trend of IT outsourcing, confidence in supplier security remains low in the
UK, research has revealed.
Most IT managers (89%) said they outsource at least one IT
system, but 20% believe these are less secure than those run
in-house, a YouGov survey found.
Despite these security concerns, 31% of companies plan to
outsource more in the coming year, according to a separate
outsourcing study by PA Consulting.
This trend is being driven by cost-cutting benefits without
regard for the security concerns of IT managers, according to
information assurance firm
NCC Group.
"Businesses that fail to check their suppliers' security
credentials are investing in false economy," said John Redeyoff,
head of NCC's security certification,
365 Assured.
Businesses need to understand that the potential for data
breaches develops at the same rapid rate as technology, he
said.
All businesses should be demanding the same security assurances
from outsourcers as the financial sector and other highly regulated
industries, said Redeyoff.
