Mimecast has introduced a cloud service called MSE
(
Mimecast Services for Exchange) which offers Exchange email as
a software service to support email archiving, a problem every
business faces.
Among its first business user is Scottish law firm MacRoberts.
IT manager, Robert Crichton, says the company used to run archving
in-house. But with 300 users, after a year and half of use, the
system creaked and groaned. Rather than upgrade, Crichton has used
MSE to provide email archiving. End users see no difference, apart
from a new way to search. He says, "Users get an Outlook add-on,
which allows them to search the archives." Previously, such
functionality would have needed IT to check the archives.
Crichton says the other benefit of using cloud-based email
archiving over an in-house system, is that users can access the
archive from anywhere users a web tool with their standard email
login.
