Oracle will take the wraps off the first product designed
with Sun tomorrow, in a move that will indicate just where themerged operationcould be heading once the deal gets
the go-ahead.
Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, is going to make an announcement
tomorrow afternoon about the OLTP Database Machine, which
incorporates Sun's FlashFire technology.
The webcast with Ellison is designed to show "how the
partnership between Oracle and Sun can benefit customers",
according to the information sent out to entice users to listen to
tomorrow's event.
The partnership between Oracle and Sun had been heading through
the
US and
European competition arenas to get clearance after a $7bn deal
was announced earlier this year.
One of the aspects of the tie-up that Ellison has stressed in
the past is that it would build offerings that were based on Sun
technology.
But earlier this month the EC indicated that it was concerned
about the impact a merged company would have on competition in the
database market and as a result it was investigating the deal until
January.
