Four people have been jailed in China for ripping off Windows
XP, according to
Reuters. The four software pirates distributed a version of the
Microsoft's Windows XP operating system called bootleg "Tomato
Garden".
Hong Lei, who hacked XP to produce "Tomato Garden Windows XP"
software, was jailed for three and a half years on Thursday by a
court in Suzhou in eastern China, Xinhua reported, citing local
media.
According to Chinese news agency Xinhua Lei crippled the
program's authentication and certification code, allowing anyone to
copy and distribute it.
Users could download the hacked Windows XP from tomatolei.com,
which has now been taken down. Xinhau said Lei generated revenue
from advertisements on the site,
